Podcast #1: Let's Talk Marketing, Marketing, Marketing #MyTop2Rules

Today, I want to talk about marketing—marketing, marketing, marketing. Did you know that a fear of marketing, and a fear of not achieving your marketing goals, is one of the biggest things that stops people from starting their venture and taking it into the spaces it needs to be?

I live by very simple rules. I’m a woman of simplicity—a visionary leader who’s dynamic and creative. My ideas can be intricate, but ultimately my execution comes down to simplicity. There are two core marketing rules I follow, whether I’m working for a big corporation or a small business.

Rule One: Are you engaged with your community? Period.

Every business requires a developmental phase. This is your time to stomp the pavement, shake hands, network, acquire partners, and create a community of folks who will support your mission. I love digital marketing, and I could spend 10 hours showing you how to maximize your digital impact. But so much of digital marketing stems from what you do in real life in your community.

One of the great thinkers of our time, Ms. Alice Windom, said: “How are you going to organize and move the world if you do not organize and move your neighbors?”

Every business starts with that mentality. Start with the people you live among, the community you work in, the places you eat, and the people you interact with. Activate those partnerships, and then expand outward. There’s no limit to the number of partners and collaborators you can have. This is a very organic way of growing, and it takes sweat equity: getting out of the house, booking sales calls, attending panels, being a vendor at local expos, and supporting other local vendors. That groundwork creates a massive community that will get on board with your vision.

Rule Two: Speak in a way your audience can feel.

This tip comes from my experience working with Google and Verizon. At Verizon, I was an editor for their Small Business program, reaching millions of entrepreneurs through the Verizon Small Business Digital Ready Portal. What made us successful was how we told these stories. We tapped into the life journeys, motivations, and emotions of the people we interviewed. We highlighted their key turning points—those “aha” moments—and aligned them with the aspirations of our audience.

So, my second simple marketing rule is this: Are you speaking in a way that your customers, collaborators, and clients can feel? Are you connecting your lived expertise with their true ambition and desire? Are you using emotion, engaging both heart and mind? Are you just creating to create, or are you actually solving problems, shining light on their struggles, and connecting with your audience’s reality?

These two tips can be embedded into a strategic marketing plan—and that’s exactly what we do at Artsy-Preneur. We offer a coaching program called Rockstar Marketing Rescue: No More Crickets. If you want to stop the chirps on your product launches, events, or sales, we implement these marketing principles into a blueprint that works for you.

We help you uncover the true essence and purpose of your brand and take simple, effective steps to steadily reach your goals.

We care deeply about the gifts God has given you and about maximizing the potential in your community. We live and breathe to see people fully activated—and the companies, projects, and programs we help create alive and thriving.

So, reach out. Be part of our community. Sign up for coaching. Lead with me, Malena Amusa.

By the way, everyone is an entrepreneur. You might think, “I’m not an artist or an entrepreneur.” But if you have a job, a role, a title, or even a household to manage, you are constantly optimizing yourself and your offerings. Whether you’re a painter, chef, techie, or even Bill Gates, we all benefit from creative processes and strategic growth.

That’s why we exist—to partner with you. Reach out. We can’t wait to hear your ideas.
